The Healthcare Provider Participant provides details for any member of the clinical team (e.g. the primary physician or members of a circle of care) when he or she is not identified under other document participations already.  Where a document is providing information related to a specific encounter (for Instance, Discharge Summary), the providers associated with that encounter (Attending Physician, Referring Physician, Consultant, etc.) are recorded as participants in the Encompassing Encounter. In the case where the Primary Care Physician is not part the encounter, but should be included in the

document, the Primary Care Physician is included in the Generic Participant construct, with appropriate codes to indicate his or her role.
